Although Hiroshi Sato raised his daughter to be self-sufficient, independent, and able to take care of herself in the face of danger, this doesn’t always mean that Asami likes such independence. With that comes incredible loneliness, forged by the death of her mother and cultivated by Hiroshi’s long hours spent at the Future Industries factory.

While she prides herself on being able to take care of herself, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want or enjoy another’s company. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that she craves it, which plays a large part in why Asami and Mako continuously break up and make up throughout the series. She doesn’t need someone to validate her, but she does need that social interaction and solid reminder that there are still people in her life.

This worsened after her father was arrested; which left Asami not only the sole overseer of her father’s company but also completely alone. Having been raised to be self-sufficient, she’s not one to seek out the help of others. Thus, Asami, much like her father, has thrown herself into her work both in hopes to drag Future Industries from the proverbial ashes and as a distraction to curb the loneliness, often working herself to the brink of exhaustion.
